Planning on applying for a Massachusetts License to Carry (LTC), please consider one of these courses. The NRA Home Firearm Safety course (LTC-007) or NRA Basic Pistol Safety course (LTC-002) covers all the requirements needed for your License to Carry (LTC-Class A) and Firearms Identification Card (FID). Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive your Mass State Police Basic Firearms Safety certificate.

Select 1 of the 2 classes now being offered by the NRA for the Basics of Pistol Shooting:
1) The (ILT) Instructor Led Training
2) The Blended Phase II
  • These courses are offered to men and woman 21 years or older.
  • The small classroom environment offered is to maximize learning and training.
  • The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Courses are LIVE FIRE courses.
  • For the range: pistols, ammo, hearing and eye protection will be provided
  • Students will have the opportunity to shoot .22lr, 38 special and 9mm pistols
  • Water and snacks provided

NRA Instructor Led Training (ILT) – NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting
Course Length: approx. 8 hours

Rate: $140

This class involves an in-depth review of pistols. The instruction covers pistol safety, pistol handling, proper ammunition selection, Live Fire, pistol maintenance, proper storage and transportation of the firearm and more.

  • Student receives a NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Handbook
  • Once you have successfully completed the classroom work and exam, you will go to the range for your Live Fire qualification.
  • Please note: the shooting qualification phase of this class maybe scheduled on other day.

NRA Blended Phase II – NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting
Course Length: approx. 5 hours

Rate: $125

  • The Phase I training is online at http://nraonlinetraining.org/ search NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course to register for the Phase I eLearning class.
  • The Phase II part of the Blended Basic Pistol course is the NRA Instructor led portion of the course. In this phase, we start in the classroom to review what you have learned online. You will work on pistol safety, pistol handling, proper ammunition selection, dry fire, pistol maintenance, proper storage and transportation of the firearm and more.

Once you have successfully completed the classroom review, you will go to the range for your LIVE FIRE qualification.

NRA Home Firearm Safety Course
Course Length: 4 hour

Rate: $100

This is a non-firing course covering the basics of pistol, rifle, and shotgun safety Student receives a hard cover NRA Home Firearm Safety Handbook Course lessons include:

  • Rules for Safe Gun Handling
  • Identifying and Unloading Different Firearms
  • Practical Exercises in Safe Gun Handling
  • Types of Ammunitions, Cleaning, and Storage of Firearms

For Personal One on One Training

Rate $35 an hour

This is a non-firing course covering the basics of pistol, rifle, and shotgun safety Student receives a hard cover NRA Home Firearm Safety Handbook Course lessons include:

  • Refresh your skills or try shooting first before making the decision to take the Basic Firearms Safety course
  • By appointment
  • Range equipment provided, if needed
